Aman has confirmed the opening of Amanvari in the northern hemisphere spring of 2026, a retreat that will introduce the brand’s discreet approach to luxury to Mexico’s Baja California for the first time.

Located on the East Cape – a stretch of coastline, long overshadowed by nearby Los Cabos – the resort will position Aman within one of the region’s most untouched landscapes.

A remote coastal setting

Unlike the bustling resorts of Cabo San Lucas, the East Cape remains defined by empty beaches, desert plains and the turquoise waters of the Sea of Cortez.

It is a place where desert meets sea and mountains in quick succession, offering a rugged backdrop for sailing, snorkelling, hiking and diving.

Its remoteness has traditionally kept development at bay, but the launch of Costa Palmas – a 1,500-acre private estate – has opened the coastline to a new calibre of hospitality.

Amanvari will join the estate’s orchards, yacht club and deep-water marina, adding a resort of just 18 keys and a handful of branded residences.

Architecture in dialogue with nature

The design, conceived by Heah & Co. and realised by Elastic Architects, emphasises integration with the landscape.

Elevated casitas will offer panoramic views across the Sea of Cortez and Sierra de la Laguna mountains, framed through courtyards and open-air terraces. Interiors will reflect the desert palette in white concrete, natural stone and tropical hardwoods, softened with artworks and ceramics created by Mexican artisans.

Residences, available for private ownership, will be positioned along the beach, hillside or golf course.

Each will offer expansive courtyards, private pools and a seamless blend of indoor and outdoor living, supported by full Aman Private Office services, from adventure planning to private chefs and butlers.

Wellness and longevity at the core

At the heart of the resort will be the Aman Spa, with a design that draws on both tradition and innovation. A contemporary interpretation of the temazcal, the region’s sweat lodge ritual, will sit alongside open-air yoga pavilions, Spa Houses and treatment rooms shaped around longevity practices. The intention, according to Aman, is to create “a space of calm reflection as much as rejuvenation”.

Culinary breadth

Dining will highlight both global and regional flavours. A series of restaurants will range from Japanese to Italian, balanced with menus centred on Baja’s seafood and seasonal produce. The emphasis will be on fresh, local and sustainable sourcing, in line with the Costa Palmas orchards and surrounding farms.

For Aman, Amanvari represents a significant extension of its presence in the Americas and Caribbean. It will follow resorts such as Amanyara in Turks and Caicos and Amanera in the Dominican Republic, and sits within a pipeline that includes Aman Beverly Hills (2027), Aman Miami Beach (2026) and Amancaya in the Bahamas (date TBC).

When it opens in 2026, Amanvari will stand as both a gateway to Baja California’s wilder landscapes and a continuation of the brand’s 35-year tradition of creating retreats where design and setting are inseparable.
