The beachfront retreat near Ha Long City offers rooftop dining, cultural experiences and design inspired by land, sea and legend

InterContinental Hotels & Resorts has opened its first luxury beachfront property within the twice-recognised UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ha Long Bay, one of Vietnam’s most iconic natural destinations.

Located in the Ha Long Marina Urban Area near Bai Chay, the resort provides direct access to boat cruises through the bay, cave explorations, and visits to floating fishing villages.

Designed by WATG with interiors by P49Deesign, the resort takes inspiration from the region’s landscapes as well as Vietnamese mythology.

The lobby is modelled on traditional bamboo basket boats, while guestrooms incorporate layered textures and hues that nod to the hotel’s coastal setting.

Throughout, the design reflects the legend behind Ha Long’s name – “the descending dragon” – said to have scattered jewels into the sea to create the towering limestone karsts that now shape the bay.

Rooms

The resort features 174 guestrooms and suites, along with 60 residences and 41 private villas that highlight the colours of the surrounding land and sea – with turquoise blue upholstery, brass accents, and layered textures reminiscent of fish scales, rippling waters and iridescent pearls throughout.

Dining

Its culinary offering spans six venues, from international to regionally inspired. On the 10th floor, with sweeping view of the bay, Roku & Star Bar will open before the end of 2025 serving Japanese cuisine showcasing six classic techniques: nukazuke (pickled and cold dishes), sashimi and sushi, mushimono (steamed), yakimono (grilled), agemono (fried), and nimono (simmered). The rooftop restaurant will also feature a curated Sake Library.

Modern Cantonese restaurant Yulong Mansion will open in 2026 across two levels with private dining rooms and an open kitchen, with tableside preparations of dishes such as Peking duck on offer.

Additional dining concepts already open include seafood specialty restaurant Marina Kitchen; French-Vietnamese bistro, La Baguette; Del Mar, a poolside lounge bar inspired by the floating village of Cửa Vạn; and Vue, a lobby lounge space with bay views offering afternoon tea and cocktails.

Wellness & Facilities

A wellness offering centred around the resort’s spa, Hidden Lagoon, includes treatments by Margaret Dabbs London and Australian brand Sodashi, while recreational facilities include three outdoor pools, a cinema-equipped games room and beach activities such as volleyball and archery.

Planet Trekkers kids’ club, meanwhile, welcomes children aged 4 to 12 with culturally immersive activities such as conical hat painting, canvas bag decorating, candle making and face painting.

For teens and families, The Game Room features a cinema, internet gaming and classic favourites including billiards, darts, foosball and air hockey.

Experiences

Beyond the property, guests can experience curated experiences that connect them to the region’s heritage, from pottery workshops at Little Colmar Studio to visits to the floating fishing villages of Cửa Vạn and Vung Viêng, ethical pearl cultivation at the Ha Long Pearl Farm, and excursions to sacred pagodas and temples dating back more than 700 years.

Located just two hours from Hanoi’s Noi Bai International Airport, InterContinental Halong Bay Resort is being positioned as a standalone destination as well as a convenient stopover before or after cruises through the region.
