Housed within a restored early-20th-century courthouse on the Ringstrasse, the 138-key hotel introduces the brand to Vienna’s First District, with culture-led interiors, four dining venues and a spa shaped by the city’s artistic heritage
Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group has opened its first Austrian property with the launch of Mandarin Oriental, Vienna, introducing the brand to the capital’s historic First District.
Set within the Ringstrasse UNESCO World Heritage precinct, the hotel occupies a restored early-20th-century courthouse originally designed by Austrian architect Alfred Keller. The transformation has been led by London-based studio Goddard Littlefair, retaining the gravitas of the original civic architecture while introducing a warmer, contemporary aesthetic.

Spanning four floors, the hotel comprises 86 rooms and 52 suites, designed as light-filled, restrained retreats. Interiors reference Vienna’s Secessionist movement through tailored fabrics, bespoke furnishings and soft neutral tones, complemented by thoughtfully proportioned bathrooms.
Original features remain central to the experience, including the grand staircase and a restored internal courtyard that forms the heart of the arrival sequence.
Dining is overseen by executive chef Thomas Seifried, with four venues positioned to reflect Vienna’s cosmopolitan culinary identity. According to the hotel, menus focus on seasonal produce and local influences, interpreted through a contemporary, international lens.

The spa adopts a holistic wellbeing concept inspired by the city’s musical and artistic heritage, blending traditional Asian therapies with locally influenced rituals. Treatments include movement-led bodywork and sound-based experiences, designed to emphasise balance, rhythm and restoration.

Art plays a defining role in the hotel’s identity, led by a reimagined Mandarin Oriental fan created specifically for the property by Austrian artist Peter Jellitsch. Combining expressive brushstrokes with a geometric grid, the artwork draws on Vienna’s Art Nouveau lineage while referencing the brand’s Asian roots, serving as both a visual signature and a symbolic bridge between heritage and modernity.
With its Vienna opening, Mandarin Oriental adds Austria to its European portfolio, positioning the property as a new luxury address embedded within the city’s architectural and cultural fabric.
